Media Release: Local Actors to Perform Shakespeare Without Rehearsal - She Said Yes!

April 26, 2011

LOCAL ACTORS TO PERFORM SHAKESPEARE WITHOUT REHEARSAL

For immediate release:

April 26, 2011, St. John’s, NL: Local theatre company She Said Yes! is bringing back its classic Ultimate Actor’s Nightmare fundraiser, after a six-year hiatus. “We produced three Actor’s Nightmare events in the early years of She Said Yes!, to support the company’s productions”, says Artistic Director Sara Tilley. “We’re back at it again to help raise funds for the tour of the play MONARITA that She Said Yes! is presenting with White Rooster Theatre this summer. We’re doing a run in St. John’s before taking the show to three festivals across the country, and it seemed like the right time to bring the Actor’s Nightmare back from the grave, so to speak. It’s always been a very popular event, for both the performers and the audience. It’s a riot!”

The premise is simple: ten classic Shakespeare scenes are performed, entirely without rehearsal. A week before the show the actors are cast through a random draw, in total secrecy. Without knowing who they’ll be acting with, they have seven days to learn their part, while maintaining a strict code of silence about their role in the show. On the night of the performance, the casting will be revealed live in front of the audience, and insanity will ensue as we bring classic theatre to life…without rehearsal.

Sure to be filled to the brim with cross-dressing, double entendres, unexpected laughs and plenty of good old-fashioned stage fright, The Ultimate Actor's Nightmare is always an unforgettable night at the theatre.

This year’s Nightmare will feature the talents of Amy Anthony, Mark Bath, Petrina Bromley, Janet Edmonds, Didi Gillard-Rowlings, Philip Goodridge, Brad Hodder, Geraldine Hollett, Joel Thomas Hynes, Allison Moira Kelly, Janet McDonald, Beni Malone, Greg Malone, Mark O’Brien, Keith Pike, Mark Power, Jody Richardson, Dave Walsh, Mark White and Michael Worthman. Hosted by Lois Brown and Sara Tilley.

Tickets are $20. For reservations call 753-4531.

The Ultimate Actor’s Nightmare IV is a fundraiser for She Said Yes! and White Rooster Theatre’s presentation of MONARITA by Shannon Bramer, directed by Sherry White, featuring Sara Tilley and Ruth Lawrence. The show will be travelling to the Toronto Fringe Festival, Hamilton Fringe Festival and Winnipeg’s Femfest in 2011, after a run in St. John’s, at the Rabbittown Theatre, June 2-4th, 2011.
