"Poetry Without Borders: A Salon on the Political Poem"
(15 participants: by acceptance, 3 hours)
Writing a political poem, whether overtly or obliquely, is very difficult. How does one steer clear of didactic lecturing, misappropriation, and melodrama? Does one eliminate these elements or just control them and never forget that, regardless of the content, the text owes its first allegiance to poetry.
Participants must submit two weeks in advance a poem on a "political" issue (this term is open to interpretation), which will be read aloud by the author and discussed among the group in a workshop/salon environment.
