The Oracle at Gros Morne By Berni Stapleton
"Gros Morne Thatre Festival"
Categories: Theatre
The fish are gone and the people are heading to the mainland in droves, so she heads for the mountain. Gros Morne Mountain, that is, to look for answers or direction while her bewildered husband sits at home mending his rotting nets. They both ponder what all Newfoundlanders are asking these days. Will the fish come back? Will our people come back? What’s to become of us? Is there recovery for the environment and our people? What is the answer? There’s only one who will speak the truth – the Oracle at Gros Morne – if her husband will only leave her alone long enough.
The Oracle at Gros Morne is a new and exciting play developed through Theatre Newfoundland Labrador in partnership with the Community-University Research for Recovery Alliance (CURRA). The CURRA is a five-year community-engaged research and knowledge mobilization initiative. Through the CURRA, collaborating representatives of community groups and government are working with social and natural scientists and artists to find ways to promote recovery of marine ecosystems and the communities that depend upon them. The combined threats of ecological and
community decline are global issues.
The Oracle at Gros Morne uses theatre to show us we will need wisdom, strength, love and endurance as we work collectively to reverse (where possible) the destruction of our communities and our planet.
PRICE - $30 adults; $15 students (INC HST)
