    The St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival is currently accepting applications for a one-year maternity leave Executive Director position starting May 1st, 2010 (52 weeks, F/T contract position).

    Now in its 21st year, the Festival (a registered charitable organization) is dedicated to the celebration, exhibition and advancement of women filmmakers through an acclaimed international film festival, cross-provincial screening tour, youth workshops and other satellite events. Held annually in October at various venues throughout St. John’s, NL, the Festival itself is a week-long screening series of 80-90 works by women directors, producers and writers and also features a workshop/seminar series, galas, receptions and other networking events.     Responsibilities: The Executive Director oversees all aspects of Festival operations and finance, including development, communications, partnerships, and planning/programming of year-round activities, under the guidance of a dynamic and involved Board of Directors. Duties include grant writing and reporting; corporate fundraising; program development and implementation; management of financial records and budgets; communication with audience, filmmakers, media, government officials and other arts organizations; hiring and management of a staff of 2-7 full/part-time employees and volunteers; regular reporting to the Festival’s Board of Directors; coordination of board meetings; and general office duties.

    This position requires a highly motivated, professional and experienced individual with strong oral, written, organizational and managerial skills; knowledge of the provincial film industry; experience with financial recording and budgets; keen attention to detail; and significant computer proficiency. The ability to work independently and multi-task in a deadline-driven environment is critical.

    The job will be assisting the steering committee with developing innovative and distinct marketing and promotional materials utilizing a variety of media, including but not limited to: website(s), e-mail, social media, print media, audiovisual, and posters for a 3 day Visual Arts Experience and 4 venue regional tour that will be held in the Exploits Valley. This includes generating a marketing timeline that will be strictly adhered to throughout the event preparation. This is a great opportunity for someone who would like to play a pivotal role in helping grow and develop a grass roots event. There is enormous scope in this position for career experience. Some evening work and intense work over the festival week (August 6th to 8th, 2010) as well as regular office hours will be required.

    The ideal candidate will:
    • be a Post-secondary graduate with studies in arts, fine arts production, graphic design, marketing or a related area of study is preferred or a combination of education and experience in event coordination will also be considered
    • develop marketing and communication strategies for approval by the Visual Arts Steering Committee
    • ensure accurate artist schedules/bios/photos are posted for the 2010 Visual Arts Experience
    • assist with public relation activities and foster ongoing communication with the media
    • have strong computer skills particularly in MS Office, Adobe PDF, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
    • have the proven ability to think creatively and strategically
    • have administrative skills including working with databases, letter writing, filing
    • ensure ongoing communication with sponsors, community partners, suppliers and donors
    • coordinate travel, bookings, set-ups, venues, communication systems and other details for special events

    Assets:

    • ability to work effectively with the public, volunteers, suppliers and the business community
    • previous experience working with non-profit organizations
    • interested in the promotion and development of arts and culture

    The duties of this position include coordination and supervision of a technical staff of seven, evaluation of all technical aspects of the theatre’s productions with regard to building, scheduling and budgeting, and other duties related to the position of Technical Director.     The Gros Morne Theatre Festival is a summer repertory theatre festival operated by Theatre Newfoundland Labrador. For its 2010 season, the Festival will produce a five plays – 3 mainstage shows and 2 second stage shows.

    This position requires 3-5 years relevant professional experience. Candidates versed in lighting and sound, as well as technical direction, would be an asset.

    A valid driver’s license is an asset. The equivalent of a NL class 4 (chauffeur) is a definite asset.

    The Festival provides return travel (by most economical method) for successful applicants.

    The Festival provides shared housing (with a housing fee/damage deposit) in the community for company members.
