Bio

Paul is the author of novels 1892, NaGeira, Easton's Gold, Easton, Stoker's Shadow, and The Surrogate Spirit as well as the non-fiction St. John's: City of Fire. His work has appeared on the Canada Reads judges' favourite books lists and on the shortlist for the Newfoundland and Labrador Book Awards. He has been a winner in the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts and Letters Awards four times since 2003.

Paul is a graduate of (Norman Jewison's) Canadian Film Centre Professional Screenwriting Programme (2001) and the Centre's Writing Lab (2000). He has written several projects including the recent short film, Solstice, recently directed in Mexico by fellow CFC graduate, Javiera Fombona.

With his partner, Maura Hanrahan, Paul runs the company HB Creativity which undertakes editing, manuscript evaluation, and runs a number of writing workshops on subjects such as Research and Writing, Editing, Novel Writing, Writing from Life, and Writing for Beginners. A diverse roster of clients includes Memorial University of Newfoundland's English Department, MUN's Division of Lifelong Learning, Stella Burry Foundation's New Beginnings Program and the Canadian Authors' Association in Toronto.
